The Heartland Walk for Warmth is a way for you to chill with friends to bring warmth to our community in the winter and a breath of cool air in the summer.
The third annual walk (one mile) will be held Friday, February 26, at the Heartland of America Park, beginning at 6 p.m.
This wintry month was chosen to emphasize the effects of extreme weather on those who struggle to meet their energy needs.

Every year thousands of families and older neighbors in our community struggle to heat and cool their homes.
Black Hills Energy, Metropolitan Utilities District, Omaha Public Power District, and their customers provide energy assistance to help these families, the disabled and the elderly.
The American Red Cross Heartland Chapter, the Salvation Army and the United Way of the Midlands administer the programs.
Unfortunately, as generous as our community is, there is still a need. The continued funding of these programs is critical as requests continue to increase due to unexpected illness, lost jobs and difficult economic times.
